Builder Magazine's Readers Choice Awards for 2011 were announced and Meld was tied for 8th place. As the highest ranked surfacing company it was quite an honor to be included with such great brands as GE, Electrolux USA, Jenn-Air and Sub-Zero.

Pratt, located in Brooklyn, wanted a stunning entry for their newest addition. With the use of Meld ecoX, that is exactly what they got. Consisting of the main stair case and over 1800 square feet of custom concrete floor tiles, ecoX gave them the sparkle and eco qualities they were searching for. The Digital Arts department, designed by WASA/Studio A, houses 160 undergraduate and graduate students pursuing degrees in digital animation and motion arts. The building also houses gallery space, Digital Arts Lab, a green screen room and soundproof audio recording both for voice-overs and special sound effects.

Architectural Record magazine recently came out with their 2010 Product Reports issue. The year’s smartest cutting edge product introductions caught the attention of this year’s Product Reports jury. A group of nine product experts, all based in New York City, were invited by Architectural Record to help judge and select the best new products of the year. With only five materials chosen, Meld’s Plus Plus pavers are part of the Product Reports Materials section! Plus Plus pavers are unique because they allow rainwater to reach the soil and plants, preventing runoff and creating luscious, green space among concrete surfaces. Meld is thrilled to have Plus Plus be included in this year’s selection!

Eco-Structure & Architect magazines teamed up to create the Fall 2010 Product & Spec Guide, which focuses on their list of great green products and materials. Meld’s Plus Plus Pavers are featured in the Outdoor section of the magazine. Made with our eco-sensitive cement-based material, the Plus Plus Pavers allow water to reach soil and plants to avoid runoff and create green space around concrete. Micro, our surfacing material comprised of up to 74% recycled glass, is also featured in the magazine under the Materials section. Both Micro and the Plus Plus Pavers are available in six standard colors, with a limitless amount of custom colors available as well.

In the October issue, Green Building + Design magazine featured the RainShine House in their Inner Workings section. Architect Robert M. Cain collaborated with the homeowners to design a house with maximum exposure to the sun. The home’s modern style allows for more sustainable features such as large areas of glass for natural lighting and overhanging eaves for natural shade. Meld’s eco-sensitive concrete materials contribute to the home’s sustainable-building methods. Meld is excited to have been a part of this project for the first modern LEED Platinum home built in the Southeast.

Yet another Meld material has been selected to be a part of Material ConneXion’s materials library and catolog. Material ConneXion is an innovative global materials library with locations in New York, Bangkok, Germany, South Korea and Milan. Material Connexion is recognized by international architects and designers as the go-to source for new materials for anything from textiles to building.

Each featured material is selected by a panel of jurors made up of 10 to 12 creative professionals, architects and designers. All materials are accepted based on four levels of innovation: new materials, improvement on an existing material, technology transfer and sustainability. About 60 materials are judged each month and only the most unique, resourceful and inventive are accepted into the library.
